Motor City Goes Hollywood

Detroit sure knows how to throw a party! Happening last month in Hollywood in a giant tent (but sans circus), General Motors’ third annual celebrity fashion show benefit, dubbed “Ten,” raised $100,000 for various charities specified by each model. Like the two previous years, the event also showcased several cars from GM’s arsenal, including concepts such as the Hummer H3T, as well as production models old (a classic ‘52 Buick) and new (including a decidedly bling-bling custom Cadillac ESV). Modeling threads from top designers Vera Wang, Prada, Boss, Ralph Lauren, D&G, and others were celebrity catwalk models Devon Aoki, Michelle Branch, Kelis, Matthew Perry, Kim Cattrall, and Dave Navarro (among many others), who returned to the stage later for the Camp Freddy all-star jam. The makeshift band performed classics such as “Ballroom Blitz” and “Brass In Pocket” and featured Billie Joe, Cypress Hill, Macy Gray, Mark McGrath, Sex Pistol Steve Jones, and—I shit you not—Juliette Lewis, who more than pulled off the rock star thang. In attendance, sipping on Tanqueray (No.10, of course) cocktails and noshing on endless shrimp and unbelievably tender roast beef, were Bai Ling, Rick Yune, Kelly Osbourne, Dennis Hopper, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, and Carmen Electra (again, among many others). In all, it was a fun night for all lucky enough to be there. The question remains: how will GM outdo themselves next year? Because you know they will.
