Rachael Yamagata

Hot on the heels of fellow female singer-songwriters like Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, and Fiona Apple, Rachael Yamagata's debut, Happenstance, has both the hype and goods that may just win her this year's Grammy for Best New Artist.

From Rolling Stone to the New York Times, Yamagata has been heralded as the new up-and-coming artist to watch this year. A hybrid of Norah Jones' husky breathy (with a slightly more throaty delivery) plus journal-writing lyrics and heavy piano riffs (reminiscent of Fiona Apple), Yamagata delivers track after track of radio-friendly yet intensely emotional songs such as "Reason Why" and "I'll Find a Way." Offering an in-depth and emotionally raw peek into Yamagata's romantic landscape, this gorgeously lush and promising debut from a brilliant and talented artist also features standouts such as the opening track, "Be Be Your Love," and "Under My Skin."
