Stray Cat Rock: Sex Hunter
Not quite. Between musical segues featuring The Golden Halfs (sic)--five hapa girls singing dippy, suggestive songs (one about a, ahem, "yellow cherry")--a multi-angled love polygon surfaces involving members of their male gang counterparts, the Eagles, and their leader, Baron (Tatsuya Fuji). These guys come across as overgrown teenagers who have way too much time on their hands.
The plot thickens: the story eventually settles on Baron's agenda of running all hapas out of town, a hatred stemming from the rape of his sister--kind of a small-scale semi-ethnic cleansing. Meanwhile, one of these hapas, Kazuma (Rikiya Yasuoka), is desperately searching for his long-lost sister, while being ruthlessly harassed by Baron and his Willy's Jeep-driving gang.
The hapa and racism aspects of the film is surprisingly relevant to this day, despite being made over thirty years ago. Sex Hunter is a wild exploitation ride firmly rooted in turn-of-the-decade atmospherics that's sure to please Seijin Suzuki film fans. DVD bonuses: director Yasuharu Hasebe filmography, trailer, and a cool insert with liner notes and original poster art.
